The major search engines want to bring to the people that do searches on them, the most relevant answer to their search. For instance if a searcher does a Google search for piggy banks, Google will search through all of their indexed websites and return what it thinks is the most relevant WebPages. The way Google determines this is by the relevancy of the page title, the description, the on-page content and how many other similarly related WebPages have a link pointing to them.
The best thing you can do for SEO on your site is, from the very beginning, have a plan.
First things first, know your clientele. What will the people that buy your product or service type into the search engines? Do a complete keyword analysis. Find one, two and three word keywords as well as long tail phrases.
This is important to mention, in creating relevancy for a webpage, having a domain name containing the main keywords that you want to be searched and found for.

Once you have a complete set of relevant keywords you need to fine and buy a domain that has the your main keyword or phrase in it. If you have a key phrase, your domain should be all one word, don’t use hyphens in-between the words that make up the key phrase. An example of this is, savemymoney.com not save-my-money.com.
The title is the next step in building relevance to your website. On your page you need to have a correct title tag. The title tag should be the first thing that the search engine robot sees when it crawls your web page. The title tag should be the very next tag after the head tag. You should create a title that is relevant to your main keyword or key phrase and the keyword or key phrase should be as close to the beginning of the title as possible. Ideally it should be the very first word in the title, thus allowing it to be the first word read by the search engine. This will tell the search engine that this is what your webpage is about.
Next step in creating relevancy for your webpage is Meta tags. This is a set of code that gives the search engine information as to what your website is about and how to crawl your site.
The most important Meta tag as far as I am concerned is the description tag. This Meta tag should be twenty words long and hold a relevant description of what your webpage is about. The search engines also use it as the subtext that is placed under the heading on the search page. In order to enhance the relevance of your webpage your description should have your key word or phrase at the beginning of the description as well as the end. On page content is very important, not only to show relevancy to the search engines but more so for your clients or customers. What you say on your web page will make sales for you or cause searchers to jump off of your webpage as fast as they clicked onto it.
To create relevance in the eyes of the search engines you must first utilize the h1 tag; this tag is like the title tag in as much as it is where you put the content on page title. This further tells the search engine what your page is about. In the h1 tag you should place your main keyword or phrase at the beginning.
The content in the body of your page will tell the search engines more information as to what your web page has to offer. Keyword placement is crucial in creating relevancy.
In order for the search engines to consider your main keyword or phrases relevant you should place the keywords or phrases as close to the beginning and as close to the end of the on page content as you possible can. You should also concentrate these keywords using this formula, your keyword or phrase should make up 7% of the total on page content.
Lastly you need to build relevant authority back links. The major search engines rank and index WebPages by how many relevant links that a webpage has pointing to it from other similar websites. It is not just the link that gives relevancy though it is text in the link that creates the relevancy. This text is called anchor text. Anchor text is the text that is hyper linked. It is the text that you click on when you want to go to the website attached to the link. In creating relevancy, this text is the most important of all. This anchor text should be the keyword or phrase that you want your potential clients or customers to type in the search engines when they search for what you sell or the service you provide.
An important thing to note is that your anchor text needs to be the same keywords or key phrases that you have used in the title, description and on page content. It won’t do you any good if the search engines crawl your website and the links pointing to it are not relevant to what your webpage is about.
Relevancy is what will get your webpage to the first page of the major search engines. Although this involves a great deal of work, I can tell you that it has worked for me time after time.
